Do you have to be employed by Carroll Hospital Center to participate?
No, you do not have to be employed by Carroll Hospital Center to participate. All physicians, including those employed by other hospitals or health systems are able to participate and there is absolutely no obligation or expectation for physicians to change or modify their practice ownership to participate in the Carroll PHO.

Do you have to have an electronic medical record (EMR) to participate?
No, practices do not need to be using an EMR, but they will need to have the ability to e-mail. While an EMR is not currently a requirement, it will become more important in the future for physicians to have an EMR. An EMR allows providers to access, share, track and report information more quickly and efficiently. Regardless of how health care reform develops in the future, the safe, efficient sharing of information electronically will be a key component of improving health care for your patients.

Will I have added administrative responsibilities, like meetings to attend and reports to fill out?

At this time, members of the PHO are required to attend an annual meeting of providers. As our physician leaders move forward in their planning, participating providers will be required to work collaboratively with other providers in the PHO. As the PHO develops, that may involve some additional work to enable the sharing of data. But, the PHO’s primary goal is to streamline patient care, so any additional requirements in terms of reporting, etc., should be streamlined into your work process and will ultimately end up making the care you deliver more efficient for you and your patients.

Is there a cost to physicians/providers to participate in the Carroll PHO?

At this time, physicians/providers may participate at no cost. The immediate focus of the PHO Board is to get physicians involved. Any future costs to physicians would be evaluated and approved by the Board and physician membership of the PHO.
