Palliative care focuses on treating the pain, stress and other symptoms that often accompany a serious or chronic illness.
Carroll Hospital Center’s palliative care team, consisting of nurses, physicians, social workers, chaplains and other staff, helps to improve a patient’s quality of life by lessening the physical, emotional and spiritual pain he or she is experiencing. Palliative care is available in the hospital and through our home care program.
Palliative care is often confused with hospice care. While similar in some respects, palliative care is available for patients of any age and in any stage of illness. Palliative care is available while patients are actively being treated for their illness, while hospice care is designed for the last six months of life when no other treatments are being pursued.
