Westminster, Md. – (November 20, 2012) — Carroll Hospital Center recently appointed two new members to join the hospital’s Board of Directors. John A. Steers, M.D., general surgeon, and Larry Van Sant, Sr., were appointed on November 6 and will be involved in making critical decisions regarding the overall governance, future direction and financial performance of the hospital.
Affiliated with Carroll Hospital Center for 18 years, John A. Steers, M.D., general surgeon, has played a significant role in advancing the hospital’s ability to provide outstanding care. He has embraced the hospital’s use of advanced technologies including the implementation of electronic medical records and minimally invasive surgical techniques such as the newly acquired da Vinci Surgical System.
Dr. Steers and his wife, Carol, are also long-standing supporters of the hospital and his father, general surgeon John E. Steers., M.D., has been a member of the Carroll Hospital Center medical staff for 41 years.
“I am excited to be appointed to the Board,” said Dr. Steers. “I grew up in Carroll County and am a second generation physician here, so I look forward to the opportunity to contribute to the hospital’s continued success in providing care to the community as a Board member.”
Larry Van Sant, Sr., a member of the Carroll Hospital Center Foundation Board of Trustees, has close to 40 years of experience in the business industry and is a veteran of serving his community on various boards and clubs. He owned and operated his family business, Van Sant, Inc., in Mt. Airy, Md., until recently selling it to BGE Home. Currently, Van Sant continues to serve as general manager for Van Sant BGE Home in Mt. Airy, Md., and also works as vice president of business development at Constellation Energy Building Systems in Baltimore, Md.
“This appointment is a tremendous honor. After years of assisting in the fundraising efforts of the hospital on the Foundation Board, I now welcome the chance to lend my expertise in the overall performance and governance of the hospital,” Van Sant, Sr., said.
“We welcome both Dr. John Steers and Larry Van Sant, Sr., to our Board. Their strong leadership, experience and dedication to providing the community with quality care will be an asset to our organization and provide us with an even greater connection to our community’s health care needs,” said Ethan Seidel, Ph.D., chairman of the Carroll Hospital Center Board of Directors.
