FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Westminster, Md. – (December 30, 2013) — Ernie Rice was selected as Carroll Hospital Center’s December Volunteer of the Month. A volunteer at Carroll Hospital Center for nearly 10 years and a current member of the Carroll Hospital Center Auxiliary’s Board of Directors, Rice was chosen for his extraordinary work at the Auxiliary’s White Rabbit Thrift Shop.

Since the shop’s opening in 2005, Ernie has used his carpentry talents to build and create various display fixtures and shelving plus the fireplace mantle for the shop’s living room. He has also repaired, reconditioned, painted and stained furniture of all kinds in the shop including tables, chairs, bed frames and trunks—all of which sold almost immediately.

“Ernie has been instrumental in the success of The White Rabbit as well as the Auxiliary as a whole. He literally can create almost anything out of nothing,” says Michele DiGate, manager of The White Rabbit Thrift Shop. “He is a true inspiration to everyone who has the pleasure of knowing him.”

In addition, as a member of the Auxiliary’s Board of Directors, Ernie has played an important role in the various fundraising projects held by the Auxiliary. For the past several years, he has created the Auxiliary’s annual holiday raffle prize which has generated several thousand dollars in proceeds for the hospital. The prizes have included an antique sleigh, a wooden playground train and for this year, a wooden children’s playhouse, complete with a cupola, window boxes and a loft.

Each month, Carroll Hospital Center recognizes the extraordinary achievements of its volunteers.  They are chosen based on length of service, hours of service or exemplary performance. Community members are encouraged to volunteer their time and skills to assist in Carroll Hospital Center’s important functions. For more information on how to volunteer, contact Volunteer Services at 410 871-7280.

Carroll Hospital Center is a nonprofit, acute care facility offering the latest in medical technology, experienced medical professionals in a variety of specialties and a continuum of programs and services to meet the needs of the community.
