FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
After years of hard work and preparation, the Boys and Girls Club of Westminster, Inc., has reached a milestone in its history by recently becoming a chartered organization.
As a chartered organization, the Boys and Girls Club of Westminster is eligible to apply for grants through the Boys and Girls Club of America and offer all of the same programs as the national organization to students in Carroll County.
“We are extremely excited to now be a chartered organization,” Bonnae Meshulam, executive director of the Boys and Girls Club of Westminster, said. “Our Board has worked hard on this for so long with other community members since we first opened our doors in 2006.”
The organization achieved chartered status because of its financial stability, the strong leadership of its Board of Directors, its proven student safety measures and a large growth in the club’s student membership. The club currently serves close to 200 students, ranging in age from 6 to 18, throughout the community.
In addition to becoming a chartered organization, the club also recently appointed several new officers to its Board of Directors.
The newly elected officers include: Greg Wilkin, national dealer of sales and service manager at Toyota Financial Services, who was appointed chair; Janet Buchanan, vice president of philanthropy at Carroll Lutheran Village, who was appointed vice chair; Lisa Wack, a navigator at Healthy Howard, who was appointed secretary; and Ken Weil, president of Consult Your CFO, Inc., who was appointed treasurer.
Founded in 2006, the Boys and Girls Club of Westminster provides after-school activities to students in Carroll County. In 2011, Carroll Hospital Center formed an official partnership with the organization to promote healthier lifestyle choices to the club’s young members and their families. As part of the partnership, the hospital provides the club with educational programs on a variety of topics, job shadow opportunities in the health care field, a health supervisor to oversee the club’s health policies and procedures, and has a member on the Boys and Girls Club of Westminster’s Board of Directors.
Carroll Hospital Center is a nonprofit, acute care facility offering the latest in medical technology, experienced medical professionals in a variety of specialties and a continuum of programs and services to meet the needs of the community.
