Respiratory Therapy
Respiratory therapy services at Carroll Hospital Center help patients of all ages breathe easy--whether they are premature babies or older adults. Our certified respiratory therapists are available around the clock to treat inpatients who suffer from chronic lung conditions, such as asthma, emphysema and bronchitis. This type of therapy also can benefit patients with cystic fibrosis, AIDS and lung cancer, as well as those who have experienced lung damage due to a heart attack or trauma.

Respiratory therapists are a key part of the health care team, working together with other medical professionals with one goal in mind: to help patients gain control of their conditions and successfully resume daily activities. In addition to providing inpatient therapy, staff members also perform diagnostic services and outpatient testing, as well as offer hands-on education to help patients use their inhalers and manage medications for optimum results. Our pulmonary rehabilitation program provides added support to help people understand their conditions and live more comfortably and independently.

Pulmonary Rehabilitation
For people with chronic pulmonary problems or restrictive lung diseases, performing even the simplest day-to-day activities presents a challenge. When every breath is a struggle, living well and enjoying life to the fullest become more and more difficult.

To help these patients cope with their conditions and function more comfortably and independently, the Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program, located in the hospital’s Outpatient Center, offers weekly educational sessions, customized exercise regimens, nutrition management and emotional support. Drawing on the expertise of physicians, nurses, psychologists, dietitians and respiratory, physical and occupational therapists, our team creates an individualized treatment plan for each patient to help them:

  • control breathing problems and other symptoms caused by emphysema, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, chronic bronchitis, asthma, neuromuscular disorders and other conditions in which lung function is compromised.
  • learn the self-management skills that will allow them to successfully resume daily activities.
  • develop nutrition and exercise habits to improve heart and lung function.
  • use effective stress management and relaxation techniques.
  • reduce hospitalizations for their conditions.
