Prevention & Education

Education plays a key role in cancer prevention and treatment. That’s why Carroll Hospital Center offers a variety of programs, screenings and resources to keep the community healthy and promote the best possible outcomes among cancer patients. In addition, a variety of support services are available for patients and their loved ones to empower them with the knowledge and confidence they need.

Screenings – Regular screenings for prostate and skin cancers are offered during the year. Click here for the latest schedule.

Nutritional Counseling – A registered dietitian who specializes in oncology nutrition, particularly during chemotherapy or radiation, can develop eating plans to help patients strengthen their immune systems and promote recovery. Counseling is available by physician referral only. For more information, call 410-871-7390.

Resource Libraries – Patients and community members may check out a variety of print and video resources, from the Oncology Unit Resource Center or The Women's Place Resource Center to help them stay informed about their condition or take steps to prevent illness.

Breast Cancer Support Group - The Breast Center hosts a monthly breast cancer support group to help women better understand and manage with the challenges and triumphs associated with the recovery process. The group meets the second Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. in The Women’s Place.

Look Good, Feel Good - Patients who are undergoing chemotherapy can benefit from this American Cancer Society program, held once a month to help women cope with the appearance-related side effects of their treatment.

I Can Cope - Once a month, Carroll Hospital Center hosts this special educational program, sponsored by the American Cancer Society. A variety of informative workshops are offered, with topics ranging from self-esteem and pain management to intimacy and financial issues.
