Many times, patients need special care due to the severity of their illnesses. At Carroll Hospital Center, we understand these needs and know how to meet them. Our monitored care units provide advanced services for those who require critical care (CCU), intermediate care (IMC) and progressive care (PCU).
Our three monitored care units are staffed around the clock with board-certified critical care house physicians, who work with the patient’s attending physician to bring an even higher level of specialized care. Additionally, our specially-trained nursing team has undergone extensive training to care for critically ill patients and regularly attend education courses to stay abreast of the latest medical information and advances.
All patients benefit from rooms that have been specially designed to meet the needs of critical patients, surgical step-down patients or patients who require cardiac monitoring. The rooms include high-tech, total care beds that allow patients to be gently turned to promote circulation and improved aeration to the lungs. Rooms also are equipped with the most sophisticated cardiac monitors, allowing nurses to keep an eye on the patients’ conditions via cameras at the nursing station.
Because patient safety is at the forefront of everything we do, our health care team works collaboratively on each patient’s plan of care and focuses on constant communication with one another to ensure the best possible communication among physicians and caregivers, streamline the process of care and promote the most effective medication management.
What’s more, our physicians and nurses understand the stress family members feel when a loved one is in critical condition, so they spend time with families to keep them informed. While caring for patients on the three monitored care units, our compassionate health care team also focuses on teaching patients and their families about a patient’s specific conditions and the course of treatment, as well as offer emotional support every step of the way.
