How to Make a Gift

All gifts are important to help forward the mission of Carroll Hospital Center. That’s why we offer a variety of options for you to provide meaningful support. Naming and recognition opportunities are available. You can choose from a number of ways to give, including:

Online Gift:
Make a gift now using our secure, convenient online form. All you’ll need is your credit card information.

Gifts of Cash:
Cash gifts, the most common form of giving, are as easy as writing a check. To make a cash donation, you may mail your check today to:
Carroll Hospital Center Foundation
200 Memorial Avenue
Westminster, MD 21157

Credit Card Gift:
Make your gift using your Visa, Mastercard or American Express and you may receive an added bonus if your credit card offers an incentive program, such as cash back, frequent flier miles or purchase rebates. That way, both you and the hospital reap the benefits! To make a donation by credit card, e-mail foundation@CarrollHospitalCenter.org or complete our online form.

Gifts of Appreciated Securities:
Giving appreciated stocks and bonds offers an excellent way to support the hospital’s programs, usually qualifying you not only for an income tax deduction for your charitable gifts, but also eliminating capital gains tax. For transfer information, please contact foundation@CarrollHospitalCenter.org.

Gifts of Real Estate:
The tax benefits of appreciated real estate gifts are identical to those of appreciated securities—an income tax charitable deduction for the full fair market value of the property and elimination of capital gains tax on your profit. For more information on this method of giving, contact foundation@CarrollHospitalCenter.org.

Charitable Gift Annuity:
In addition to a tax deduction, this type of gift also guarantees you a fixed income for life, partially tax-free. The dollar amount that you receive is determined by your age and the age of any other beneficiary you name at the time of the gift. For information on current rates, please contact foundation@CarrollHospitalCenter.org.

This estate gift also qualifies you for membership in our Bridge Builders Society. Please contact the Foundation Office at 410-871-6200 to find out more and receive your invitation to the Bridge Builders luncheon.

Charitable Remainder Trust:
A charitable remainder trust can provide you (and your spouse, if appropriate) lifetime income and cash flow and a current income tax deduction, while making important endowment funds available for the future health care of the community. At the same time, you avoid all capital gains and future estate taxes. Contact foundation@CarrollHospitalCenter.org to find out how you and your family could benefit from a charitable remainder trust.

Bequests:
Bequests through wills allow individuals to make significant contributions that may not be possible during their lifetimes. When you make a bequest to the hospital, your taxable estate is reduced by a 100 percent deduction for the amount of a cash gift, or by fair market value of appreciated assets. For sample language you may use to remember Carroll Hospital Center in your will, please contact foundation@CarrollHospitalCenter.org.

Life Estate:
Instead of donating cash or securities to fund a gift, you may prefer to give the hospital the ultimate ownership of your home, while retaining life use for yourself. You may also want a survivor (perhaps your spouse) to be allowed to enjoy life occupancy. By deeding the property to the hospital now, subject to your life possession, you may benefit by a sizable, current income tax deduction. For more information on this type of giving, contact foundation@CarrollHospitalCenter.org.

Life Insurance Gifts:
Life insurance is an often-overlooked asset that can be used to fund a gift. You can name the hospital as beneficiary of a policy that is no longer needed for its original purpose, or you can transfer actual ownership of the policy or buy a new policy for the hospital’s benefit. Your gift will entitle you to an income tax deduction, and future premium payments will be tax-deductible. For more information, contact foundation@CarrollHospitalCenter.org.

Staff in the Carroll Hospital Center Foundation office are happy to answer any questions about giving and are well prepared to work with donors and their attorneys or financial consultants to assist with philanthropic interests. You may contact the Foundation office at 410-871-6200 or
e-mail foundation@CarrollHospitalCenter.org.

Matching Gifts:
Your current employer or your spouses employer, may offer a matching gift program that will match your donation to a charity 100% or more! Matching gifts are the perfect opportunity for you to double the impact of your donation. See your Human Resources Department or contact the Foundation at 410-871-6200 for more information.
