At Carroll Hospital Center, we know that creating a healthier community means more than caring for disease. It also means offering educational and preventive programs that brings wellness to the front lines—to you, the members of the community we serve. Education and access to information are powerful tools that can help you make more informed medical choices and adopt positive lifestyle habits to improve your quality of life.
Our Learning Center, the educational division of the hospital, provides this valuable information on two fronts: to help support the knowledge and technical expertise of our staff and to educate our community about important health issues. Its full range of outreach programs includes diabetes education, support groups, CPR instruction, first-aid courses and educational classes on a variety of topics. Our programs are led by specially trained and certified instructors with various areas of expertise.
Each year, thousands of people take advantage of our many offerings:
Arthritis Aquatics Program
Held at Change, this ongoing program offers aquatic exercise specifically geared to help people with arthritis reduce pain, while safely building muscle tone and enhancing cardiovascular fitness.
Children’s Health and Safety Education
Wellness starts early. That’s why The Learning Center has developed programs that are designed to teach kids how to be safe and healthy. Classes on babysitting, CPR and home safety are offered throughout the year, along with special courses and support groups for youngsters who have diabetes, are expecting the addition of a new brother or sister to the family or are preparing for surgery at the hospital.
CPR and Advanced Life Support Training
Carroll Hospital Center regularly offers courses in basic life support, advanced cardiac life support and pediatric advanced life support. These classes, offered at the hospital, are open to the general public.
Custom Community Events
Let Carroll Hospital Center bring its expertise to you! At the request of your company or organization, we can design a health fair, screening or educational program to meet your special needs. Events can be held on site at your organization, or at the hospital or another area location. To cover expenses, we charge a reasonable contract fee for this service, depending on the specifics of your event.
Health Screenings and Assessments
One of the best—and easiest—ways to stay healthy is to visit your doctor regularly for recommended exams, screenings and immunizations. This simple practice helps prevent disease and complications or, at the very least, catch them early so you have the best chance for effective treatment and recovery. To assist you in this important effort, Carroll Hospital Center offers a variety of screenings throughout the year, including those for prostate cancer, skin cancer and cardiovascular disease.
Prenatal Education
As part of its commitment to women’s health, the hospital provides many educational programs and classes to prepare you and your entire family for the birth of your baby. Our ongoing offerings include Prepared Childbirth, Childbirth Review, Breastfeeding, Sibling Preparation (“I Am Special”), Grandparenting Today and Infant CPR. Pre- and postnatal exercise programs also are available through The Women’s Place.
Support Groups and Educational Series
If you or a loved one is coping with the challenges of disease, Carroll Hospital Center offers a variety of groups and educational classes to gain the support and knowledge needed to successfully manage the condition—from heart disease and cancer to Parkinson’s disease and many more.
Tobacco Cessation
A seven-week tobacco cessation program is offered on an ongoing basis at the hospital in conjunction with the Carroll County Health Department. A related support group provides added encouragement and motivation to quit smoking or using tobacco.
