Westminster, Md. – (December 29, 2008) — Carroll Hospital Center recently received a number of generous gifts from residents and businesses wanting to lift the spirits of pediatric patients at the hospital and give back to the community during the holiday season. Following is a list of those who donated items:

• The Brownie Girl Scout Troop 659 from the St. John Catholic Church in Westminster donated eight hand-made fleece blankets to children in the hospital’s care. The girls ranging in age from five to seven donated the multicolored blankets to provide young patients with something to snuggle up with when feeling scared.

• Staff members at the Lehigh Cement Company in Westminster delivered 117 stockings filled with holiday toys, coloring books, crayons and more for the hospital’s young patients. The items were purchased using proceeds from the company’s various fundraisers and with employee donations. 

• Members of the East Middle School Student Government Association in Westminster donated stuffed animals to the hospital’s emergency department to comfort younger patients visiting in an emergency situation.

• And, parents of children at the Ward’s Chapel Preschool in Randallstown, Md., donated more than 100 children’s books to the hospital as part of the preschool’s Christmas project. The books contained get well cards that were written by the preschoolers for pediatric patients.

Carroll Hospital Center, founded in 1961 as Carroll County General Hospital, is a nonprofit, acute care facility offering the latest in medical technology, experienced medical professionals in a variety of specialties and a continuum of programs and services to meet the needs of the community.
