Westminster, Md. – (September 11, 2009) — J&M Comic and Games in Eldersburg, recently donated boxes of comic books, games, action figures and more on September 3 for pediatric patients at Carroll Hospital Center.
Scott Campanella, owner of J&M Comic and Games, his wife, Beatrice, and children, Jason and Maggie, delivered the items to give young patients something to play with and enjoy while in the hospital’s care. The items were collected from donations made by customers earlier this year when the store participated in Free Comic Book Day, an annual comic book industry event held nationwide.
Scott said he decided to start the collection after a customer suggested the idea. Scott said the suggestion brought back memories of a time when he was in the hospital as a child and fortunately had video games and cards to play with thanks to people’s generous donations.
“I learned to play cribbage when I was in the hospital, so now I’ve donated playing cards. It will give the [children] something to do and take them away from what they are experiencing,” said Scott.
Scott said his store plans to collect and donate more items to the hospital in the near future and will continue to collect them as part of the store’s Free Comic Book Day every year.
Carroll Hospital Center, founded in 1961 as Carroll County General Hospital, is a nonprofit, acute care facility offering the latest in medical technology, experienced medical professionals in a variety of specialties and a continuum of programs and services to meet the needs of the community.
