FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Westminster, Md. – (December 10, 2007) — The Carroll Hospital Center Foundation recently announced the formation of a women’s philanthropy group called WISH (Women’s Initiative Supporting Health). Open to women of all ages and backgrounds, the group will use its collective power and resources to support women’s health care needs locally.

The idea for a hospital-affiliated philanthropy group, focused on the health issue of women, was first proposed in early 2007, when several area women formed a committee to investigate ways to give back to the community. WISH member dues ($100/year) are earmarked for specific health projects or programs of the group’s choosing, and a “Little Pink WISH” membership ($25/year) is available for college students and young women or children under age 18. Members also receive special discounts from local businesses, including Pomeroy Jewelers, Gold’s Gym and Roops Mill Spa, as well as at The Women’s Place at Carroll Hospital Center and The Candy Striper, the hospital’s gift shop.

“There are many women in the community who have a real passion for philanthropy and others who want to get involved, but don’t know where to start. WISH both nurtures and inspires a philanthropic mindset. It gives members a way to channel their time, expertise and financial support toward causes and initiatives that really matter to them, like support groups or specialized care for women with high-risk pregnancies,” says Sherri Hosfeld Joseph, director of development at Carroll Hospital Center and a founding WISH member. “And since they’re supporting projects and programs in their own community, they get to see the results of their efforts firsthand.”

For membership information, meeting times, or to join WISH, contact the Carroll Hospital Center Foundation, 410-871-6200.

Founded in 1961, Carroll Hospital Center is a nonprofit, acute care facility offering a broad continuum of services — including comprehensive inpatient, outpatient and community programs — for all stages of life.
