FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Westminster, Md. – (November 13, 2007) — Carroll Hospital Center has hired Christopher Morlan as its new Environmental Safety Coordinator. A lieutenant with the Frederick County Department of Fire and Rescue, Morlan brings more than 15 years of safety and emergency preparedness experience to the hospital, particularly in the areas of fire safety, hazardous materials and surveillance, disaster training, building inspections and environmental compliance.
As environmental safety coordinator, Morlan will take steps to ensure a healthy, secure environment for patients, visitors and employees alike. In particular, he will conduct hazardous surveillance rounds, oversee employee disaster training, coordinate emergency planning and response, address environmental safety issues and manage the hospital’s compliance with Joint Commission Environment of Care standards. He also will collaborate with government agencies and local municipalities on emergency response protocol.
“When disaster strikes, one of the first places people turn is their local hospital,” explains Morlan. “In these situations, Carroll Hospital Center needs to be prepared for a mass influx of patients, community members and employees. We need to provide a safe haven always, no matter what’s happening outside our doors.”
Morlan holds the following certifications from the National Board on Fire Service Professional Qualifications: certified fire inspector, instructor, health and safety officer and hazardous materials technician. He recently completed his Emergency Management Certification through FEMA and the Emergency Management Institute.
Carroll Hospital Center, founded in 1961 as Carroll County General Hospital, is a nonprofit, acute care facility offering a continuum of services, including comprehensive inpatient, outpatient and community programs.
