Carroll Hospital Center’s Hope and Healing Luncheon raises breast cancer awareness in community

Westminster, Md. (November 1, 2006) — An inspirational day filled with hope brought a new light to breast cancer awareness throughout the community during Carroll Hospital Center’s annual Hope and Healing Luncheon held on Sunday, October 15 to benefit The Breast Center at The Women’s Place. More than 130 people attended the afternoon lunch at the Wakefield Valley Golf and Conference Center generating $13,000 for The Breast Center at The Women’s Place at Carroll Hospital Center.

Breast cancer survivor, Julie Silver M.D., assistant professor at Harvard Medical School and award-winning author, served as the keynote speaker for the event, along with sisters and breast cancer survivors, Patty Bankert and Laurie Griffith. Patty and Laurie were diagnosed with breast cancer in close proximity of one another and went through treatment together at Carroll Hospital Center.

Carroll County Cancer Center was the pink ribbon sponsor of the event, donating $5,000 and Devaney & Associates, Inc. and Advanced Vacuum Company were the two sunflower sponsors, donating $1,000 each.

Carroll Hospital Center, founded in 1961 as Carroll County General Hospital, is a nonprofit, acute care facility offering a continuum of services, including comprehensive inpatient, outpatient and community programs.
