FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Westminster, Md. (October 17, 2006) — The diabetes education program in The Outpatient Center at Carroll Hospital Center has earned the prestigious American Diabetes Association (ADA) Education Recognition Certificate for the second time in a row. The ADA Education Recognition Certificate assures that diabetes educational programs meet rigorous standards.
Certificates are issued for three years and the Carroll Hospital Center diabetes education program was first recognized by the ADA for quality of its program in June 2003. Application for recognition is voluntary and programs that receive the honor have a staff of knowledgeable health professionals providing participants with comprehensive information about diabetes management.
“The certification process allows Carroll Hospital Center to compare its diabetes education program against national benchmarks and standards,” said Sharon Gomes-Sanders, R.N., B.S.N., director of outpatient services. “And, it assures our patients that they will receive top-notch diabetes care.”
Diabetes is an increasingly significant health issue, with nearly 21 million people in the United States suffering from the disease. Some people don’t know they even have diabetes until they are faced with the life-threatening consequences, such as heart disease, stroke, kidney disease or blindness. Diabetes cannot be cured, making management through diabetes education programs like the one at Carroll Hospital Center so important.
Carroll Hospital Center, founded in 1961 as Carroll County General Hospital, is a nonprofit, acute care facility offering a continuum of services, including comprehensive inpatient, outpatient and community programs.
