Westminster, Md. (October 17, 2006) — The 3rd Annual Season of Change 5K Run/One-Mile Walk held Sunday, October 8 raised $7,000 for Carroll Hospice. Over 100 runners and walkers participated in this year’s event, which took place at the Carroll County Farm Museum in partnership with their Fall Harvest Days.

Prizes were awarded by age for both men and women placing first, second and third and one prize was awarded to the top runner in the youth category.

The 2006 “Marathon” sponsors who donated more than $1,000 included Four Seasons Sports Complex, Carroll County Cancer Center and Hill Development Group, LLC. Dr. Yousuf Gaffar of the Carroll County Cancer Center served as the chairman of the event.

The 2006 5K fun run winners were: 45 years old and over, first place Gary Honeman 21:35 and Deborah Tiburzi 26:28, second place Peter Blank 23:12 and Ellen Hocheder 28:32, third place Joe Hutsell 24:30 and Linda Morris 29:27; 31 to 44 years old, first place Mike Colaiacovo 16:41 and Patricia Fenton 20:57, second place Mark Hadley 19:52 and Chrissy Pennington 22:35, third place Doug Myers 21:57 and Marsha Demaree 23:47; 30 years old and under, first place Matt Palilla 17:58 and Olivia Tiburzi 26:28, second place Thomas Carpenter 20:14 and Doreen Layug 27:29, third place Jesse Haines 20:45 and Katie Barritt 28:11 and youth winner, Justin Lansinger 23:09.

Carroll Hospice, an affiliate of Carroll Hospital Center, is a non-profit organization that provides end-of-life care to the terminally ill. In 1986, Carroll Hospice cared for 53 patients. Today, they serve more than 50 patients each day, regardless of their ability to pay. The new state-of-the-art inpatient facility for Carroll Hospice is scheduled to open January 2007.
