Westminster, Md. (September 7, 2006) — Carroll Hospital Center urologist Michael Kane, M.D., also of Kane & Leventhal, M.D. LLC, a leading urology practice in Carroll County, and his wife, Debbie, have established a scholarship for college-bound children of Carroll Hospital Center and Carroll Hospice employees. The “Carroll Hospital Center Foundation Scholarship for Dependents of Associates (Employees)” was launched with a $30,000 gift from Dr. and Mrs. Kane. Though it will initially honor one student each year, the scholarship’s amount and number of recipients are expected to increase as the endowment grows.

To apply, an individual must be the dependent of a Carroll Hospital Center or Carroll Hospice employee in good standing who has worked for the hospital for at least three years. Applicants must also have been accepted to a four-year, accredited college or university with plans to pursue their first bachelor’s degree. Along with their application, individuals are required to submit a 500-word essay on “What it would mean to me to attend college.”

“Education is very important to me and my wife, and we find it so disheartening when money prevents someone from pursuing his or her educational dreams,” says Dr. Kane. “Carroll County is our community, and we want to do all we can to support it…the scholarship helps us do just that. It’s our way of saying thanks, and we hope it inspires others to give back too.”

Details on application submission will be provided by the Carroll Hospital Foundation in late 2007.
