FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Westminster, Md. (November 3, 2006) — Kiwanis Clubs of Carroll County collectively donated $6,000 to the Carroll Hospital Center Foundation recently for the purchase of a jaundice meter to help assist in the management of neonatal jaundice.
Kiwanis is a global organization made up of volunteers from communities “dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time.” Carroll County is home to four Kiwanis Clubs — Mt. Airy, Greater Westminster, Taneytown and Westminster — united in their commitment to serving children and the community.
The jaundice meter is the first of its kind at Carroll Hospital Center, providing a non-invasive estimate of bilirubin levels. After touring Carroll Hospital Center earlier this year, members of local Kiwanis Clubs were interested in finding a way to help children being cared for at the community hospital. Harold Herman, of the Kiwanis Club of Mt. Airy, and Beth Jacobs, chair of the Young Children Priority One committee, started the initiative focused on purchasing the jaundice meter.
Founded in 1961, Carroll Hospital Center is a nonprofit acute care facility offering a broad continuum of care, including comprehensive inpatient and outpatient services and community-based programs and initiatives.
