FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Westminster, Md. - Golfers were in full swing Sept. 17 at the 14th annual Carroll Golf Classic at Wakefield Valley Golf and Conference Center. The golf tournament is sponsored by the Carroll Hospital Center Foundation and is one of the largest fundraising events for the hospital. This year’s Golf Classic featured 216 players, lunch and a full day of golf on all three courses at Wakefield Valley. Afterwards, participants enjoyed a cocktail hour, dinner and an awards ceremony. The Golf Classic netted more than $200,000 for Carroll Hospital Center’s Advanced Pain Management Center, offering comprehensive diagnosis and advanced treatment for chronic pain. The total proceeds are a Golf Classic record. The team of Steve Dillman and Randy Hart from HDR Benefit Advisors, one of the tournament sponsors, won the coveted Wampler Cup, presented to the top finishers of the low-net handicap division. The Cup is named for the late Atlee Wampler, one the hospital’s founders. His son, Atlee Wampler III, was on hand to present the trophies to this year’s winners. Prizes also were awarded to the top finishers of the low-gross handicap division, two-man scramble and ladies scramble. They were: Jacen Martinez and Ernie Tompkins, low-gross; Jim Cheek and Kevin Crawford, two-man scramble; and Sandra Enrique and Leslie Simmons, ladies scramble. The Carroll Hospital Center Foundation extends special thanks to the Golf Classic Committee, tournament chairman Gene Canale and the many volunteers and generous sponsors including: Piper Rudnick, LLP; Post and Schell; Morgan Shelsby Carlo Downs & Everton; McKesson; Kaufman Hall; FairCode Associates; Roche Diagnostics; American Resource Management; Kelly’s Stationery; KPMG; Navigant Consulting and Roy Kirby & Sons, Inc. Founded in 1961 as Carroll County General Hospital, Carroll Hospital Center is a nonprofit, acute care facility offering a continuum of services, including comprehensive inpatient, outpatient and community programs.
