Carroll Hospital Center honors volunteers

Westminster, Md. – Carroll Hospital Center offered thanks to an essential part of its team – the volunteers – at the annual Volunteer Recognition Luncheon April 30 at Wakefield Valley Golf and Conference Center. The event takes place each April following National Volunteer Week (April 18-24), during which the hospital’s more than 200 volunteers are honored for their invaluable contributions.
In 2003, the hospital’s volunteers collectively donated 36, 493 hours of service, performing a variety of tasks from greeting visitors in the main lobby and delivering flowers to patient rooms, to staffing The Candy Striper Gift Shop and assisting with office duties.
Lee Primm, hospital board chairman, and John Sernulka, president and CEO of Carroll Hospital Center, commended the tireless efforts and support of the volunteers, and Dottie Cole, president of the Carroll Hospital Center Auxiliary, attributed the volunteers’ dedication for her inspiration to become a hospital volunteer and member of the Auxiliary.
Service awards were presented to individual volunteers for hours and years of service. Volunteers honored for years of service were: Thelma Coleman, 42 years; Erma Frock, 36 years; Margaret Martin, 32 years; Betty Wise, 31 years; Vera McCubbin, 30 years; Irene Danner, Arwana Leckron, and Susie Warner, 27 years; Helen Franklin, Ruth Harmon and Algie King, 25 years; Betty Shaum, 24 years; Gladys Stahley, 23 years; Audrey Graf, Marty Honeman, Ruth Maus and Catherine Pearson, 22 years; Joe Shaum, 20 years; Lillian Hawkesworth, 19 years; Doris Steinberg, 17 years; Shirley Hayes, 16 years; , Dottie Lyell, Phyllis Ullman, 14 years; , Jane Armacost, Mary Clingan, Jack Nash and Marian Nash, 13 years; Ruth Bare, Louise Black, Marie Blank, Mary Bruff, Gloria Ewing, Mary Jane Edmunds, Vivian Phillips, Dolores Schwessinger and Norma Spencer, 12 years; Jean Brocato, Emmalie Bolte, Elizabeth Corbin, Lorraine Myers, Lenda Tingler, Betty Long and Peggy Wade, 11 years; Peggy Dovell, Warren Therien and Laura Wheeler, 10 years.
In addition, the following volunteers were awarded for 150 or more hours of service: Irene Danner, 31,000 hours; Ruth Harmon, 13,000 hours; Helen Franklin and Algie King, 12,000 hours; Catherine Pearson and Doris Steinberg, 7,000 hours; Alice Crowl and Gloria Ewing, 4,000 hours; Mary Jane Edmunds, Peggy Wade and Laura Wheeler, 3,000 hours; Marty Amundson, Lenda Tingler and Hazel Wagner, 2,000 hours; Christine Amundson, Barbara Donahue, Henry Mann, Millie Mann, Ethel Mullinix, Peggy Pitrone, Waneta Sackman, Pat Salacuse and Lois Warden, 1,000 hours; Carole Kraus, Fran Miller, Evie Sakers and George Warden, 500 hours; Al Bozzell, Ruth Brown, Dina Canapp, Annie Carter, Nell Ebaugh, Linda Frazee, Arleen Gardner, Cathy Hartman, Christine Kirk, Rosalie Kreiner, William Lansinger, Kitty Luers, Charley Saylor, Evelyn Schallaci, Liz Shoffner, Fran Thomas, Billie White and Peggy Wilhelm, 150 hours.
