Westminster, Md. – The Carroll County General Hospital Board of Directors recently elected new officers and members for the coming term beginning Oct. 1. Marcus Lee Primm was chosen as the new chairman and William Gavin will service as vice chairman. Elected to the board as new members are Miriam Beck, Charles Fisher, Jr., and Ethan Seidel, Ph.D.

Primm, a board member since 1990, will succeed outgoing chairman C. Todd Brown. He is director of special projects for the development department at McDaniel College and a member of the hospital’s Medical Executive Committee and Medical Committee of the Board. Gavin has been a board member for 19 years, having served as chairman from 1986-91. He also serves on the hospital’s Carroll County Health Services Corporation, Carroll County Med-Services Corporation and committees for real estate and pension/insurance.

“We’re thrilled to have Lee and each of these talented individuals working with us,” said John M. Sernulka, the hospital’s president and CEO. “Each one brings an impressive background and understanding of the issues important to our community and hospital. The next several years will present both tremendous change and opportunity for our hospital, and I’m looking forward to a productive partnership.”

Newly elected members Beck, Fisher, Jr., and Seidel, replace two retiring board members, John F. Gambatese and Randy Rager, who served for 27 and 17 years, respectively.

Beck is currently treasurer of Carroll County Health Services Corporation and member of the Medical Committee of the Board. She also was a member of the planning committee formed to spearhead the building of a hospital in Carroll County.

Beck was a teacher and administrator with Carroll County Public Schools before her retirement in 1989.

Fisher, a resident of Westminster, is president of Walsh and Fisher law firm and has been in practice for 34 years. He is chairman of the Medical Committee of the Board, vice president of Carroll County Med-Services Corporation and member of the Medical Executive and By-Laws Committees.

Fisher received his bachelor’s degree in political science from Loyola College and juris doctor degree from University of Maryland School of Law.

Seidel is a professor of economics and business, and vice president of administration and finance at McDaniel College. He will serve as chairman of the hospital’s Corporate Finance and Compliance Committee and is a board member of Westminster Union Bank, Greater Westminster Development Corporation and Target Community and Educational Services, Inc.

Seidel received an MBA in finance from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and a doctorate in finance from Johns Hopkins University.

Current board members who will continue their terms of service are: Charles Fisher, Sr., secretary/treasurer; Stephen Bohn; C. Todd Brown; Khalil Freiji, M.D.; Flavio Kruter, M.D.; Paula Langmead; Samuel Matz, M.D.; G. Melvin Mills, Jr.; Michael Oster and John Sernulka.
