First Patient Admitted to New Emergency Department Wednesday Morning
Carroll Hospital Center opened its newly constructed Emergency Department today, closing its former facility simultaneously. Amanda Willard, a resident of Baltimore, was the first patient admitted to the new facility.

“It’s {new Emergency Department} so much bigger and even though it was busy, the nursing care that I received was still great,” said Willard.

The new facility is twice the size of the previous department and features state-of-the-art equipment, 37 private patient rooms with walls and glass doors, and a spacious, airy waiting area with a children’s play area. The new facility was built to accommodate 55,000 patients annually.

The entrance to the Emergency Department is now located at the front of the hospital campus where it is more visible and has separate entrances for walk-in and ambulance patients. The public entrance has a one-way circular driveway for patients to be dropped off and convenient parking in front of the new facility.

The emergency vehicle entrance is a covered port that can accommodate up to six ambulances at one time and has access to two decontamination areas for individuals exposed to chemical or other hazardous agents to be treated.

Founded in 1961, Carroll Hospital Center is a nonprofit, acute care facility offering a continuum of services, including comprehensive inpatient, outpatient and community programs.
