 Westminster, Md. –
The 12th annual Carroll County Golf Classic provided another year of exciting competition for a good cause. More than 200 golf enthusiasts gathered at Wakefield Valley Golf & Conference Center, Sept. 20, for the county’s premier charity golf event to help raise funds for enhancements in programs and services at Carroll County General Hospital.
The Golf Classic is sponsored by the Carroll County General Hospital Foundation and has become one of the largest fundraisers for the hospital, raising more than $1 million since its inception.
This year’s tournament was one of the most successful to date, as more than $160,000 was raised for the new computerized patient information system at Carroll County General. The system will allow patient information to be recorded, stored and retrieved electronically, ultimately leading to enhanced quality of care.
The winners of the coveted Wampler Cup were radiologists Niel Borrelli, M.D., and Valeriano Fuguso, M.D. Named for the late Atlee Wampler, one of the founders of the hospital, the award is presented to the winners of the low-net handicap division. Prizes also were awarded to the top finishers in the low-gross handicap division and two-man scramble. They were: Ick Moledina, owner of International Foreign Cars in Westminster and Gary Witt, low-gross; and Tom Myers and Frank Loys of Provident Bank of Maryland, two-man scramble.
Jeff Sprinkle, executive director of the Westminster YMCA, was the tournament chairman.
The Carroll County General Hospital Foundation thanks everyone who participated in the event and the following major sponsors for their generous support: McKesson; KPMG; Morgan, Shelsby, Carlo, Downs & Everton; Piper Rudnick; LLP and Kaufman Hall & Associates.
The 2003 Carroll County Golf Classic will take place Friday, Sept. 19 with Gene Sines, of Random House, as chairman.
Founded in 1961, Carroll County General Hospital is a non-profit, acute care facility offering a continuum of services, including comprehensive inpatient, outpatient and community programs.
