 Westminster, Md. –
The Carroll County General Hospital Foundation presented the inaugural Founders Community SPIRIT Award to Scott Bair, Charles Fisher, Sr., David Scott and Atlee Wampler , Jr., during the Founders Circle Dinner on Oct. 19 at the Antrim 1844 in Taneytown. The dinner honored members of the community who donated $1,000 or more this year to the hospital’s Foundation or contributed a sponsorship of $2,500 to the Carroll County Golf Classic.
The Community SPIRIT Award will be given out annually to a member of the community who has continually demonstrated a commitment to improving the quality of life and health of residents of Carroll County and beyond. The recipient of the award also exemplifies the hospital’s SPIRIT values - Service, Performance, Innovation, Respect, Integrity and Teamwork.
“The event is an opportunity to express gratitude and celebrate the impact that our donors have in assuring that the community has access to skilled and compassionate medical care,” said Ellen Finnerty Myers, vice president of development at Carroll County General Hospital.
The award was presented posthumously to Wampler and Bair. Wampler’s award was accepted by his wife, Janet, while Glenn Bair received the Community SPIRIT Award on behalf of his father. Wampler was instrumental in leading the funding campaign to build a hospital in Carroll County and became the first president of the Carroll County General Hospital Board of Directors. Bair was the director of the initial financial campaign and donated most of the land where the hospital was constructed.
Scott was the chairman of the equipment committee and his wife, Bette, is the daughter of Charles Billingslea, M.D., one of the first physicians at Carroll County General Hospital whom the Billingslea Medical Building is named for.
Further, Fisher has been a part of the hospital’s growth for more than 40 years, first as the chairman of the nominating committee for corporate membership and officers, and today as a member of the board of trustees.
The Carroll County General Hospital Foundation was established in 1975 to provide philanthropic support to Carroll County General Hospital.
