Westminster, Md. – Village Creations of Walkersville helped lift the spirits of children at Carroll County General Hospital by donating a multi-media Fun Center to the Pediatric Unit, as part of the Boyds Stuff for Starlight campaign. The Fun Center is manufactured by the Starlight Children’s Foundation and Nintendo of America specifically for use in hospitals.

“This was a great opportunity for us to give back to the community by helping children take their minds off their illness when in the hospital,” said Lois Trout, manager of Village Creations, a retail gift store that was one of the top sellers of the Boyds Collection Starlight resin and plush figurines over the past year.

The Starlight Fun Center is an entertainment unit that consists of a TV monitor, VCR and Nintendo 64 game system. The mobile entertainment units can be rolled right up to a hospital bed, thus allowing children to have hours of fun during an anxious time by playing video games or watching a movie.

“The Fun Center is a great way for children to pass the time during their hospital stay and enjoy fun activities with the whole family,” said Tina Gasper, director of Women’s and Children’s Services at Carroll County General Hospital. “We think children will be delighted to have something that will help them feel better.”

Starlight is an international non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of seriously ill children. Up to 200 Fun Centers have been placed in hospitals in the Mid-Atlantic region and there are more than 2,300 Fun Centers in approximately 650 hospitals worldwide. The Los Angeles-based Foundation was founded in 1983 and the Fun Center Program began in 1992.

Founded in 1961, Carroll County General Hospital is a nonprofit, acute care facility offering a continuum of services, including comprehensive inpatient, outpatient and community programs.
