By 1995, many changes had taken place at Carroll Country General Hospital to keep pace with the surge in growth in the area. Notable developments included a dialysis center, 20-bed behavioral health unit, cardiovascular and angiography lab, expanded emergency department, sleep lab and highly specialized surgical intensive care unit. In addition, a new medical nursing unit was added with a focus on caring for cancer and hospice patients. Pediatric cardiology also was introduced as part of the hospital’s continuum of care.
In 1996, groundbreaking began for the creation of The Family BirthPlace, one of the hospital’s premier services and among the first facilities in the region to introduce the labor, delivery, recovery and post-partum approach to childbirth. The next year, construction was completed on the Richard N. Dixon Ambulatory Surgery Center, the first full-service facility for outpatient surgery in the county. In keeping with the hospital’s focus on meeting the health care needs of special populations, The Women’s Place opened in 1999 as a center dedicated to the health and wellness of women.
Throughout this decade, advances in technology made more minimally invasive procedures possible, which greatly decreased the time needed for surgery, hospital stays and recovery. In addition, patient-controlled anesthesia pumps were introduced for added pain management and improved comfort. In 1999, the latest in imaging advances were offered in an outpatient setting through a partnership with Advanced Radiology.
