Carroll Hospital Center encourages mothers to take advantage of our breastfeeding resources, which include pre- and post-natal breastfeeding education and a support group, as well as access to our certified lactation consultant and Family Birthplace nurses.
The Breastfeeding Support Group
This free support group provides encouragement and mother-to-mother support, as well as current breastfeeding information from our certified lactation consultants.
Meets weekly on Thursdays, from 12 – 1 p.m. in the Outpatient Center Classroom at Carroll Hospital Center. No registration is required; walk-ins are welcome. For more information, call 410-871-7000.
Register for our Breastfeeding Class
The breastfeeding class is designed for women who are considering or have chosen to breastfeed. You’ll learn how to breastfeed, how your partner can be supportive, what to expect the first week after delivery. Also discussed are topics including, returning to work, using breast pumps, storing breast milk and much more. The class is taught by a registered nurse lactation consultant.

In the Hospital
The nursing staff at The Family Birthplace will provide breastfeeding assistance and guidance during your hospital stay.
After You Go Home
- After you are discharged, one of The Family Birthplace nurses will call you to ensure that breastfeeding is going well and to answer any questions you may have.
- You will be encouraged to call for help when needed. The Family Birthplace nurses or lactation consultants can guide you through the most common adjustment issues.
- Outpatient consultations with a lactation consultant are offered for further assistance with the breastfeeding technique and special breastfeeding advice.
