The Founders Circle
Every gift to Carroll Hospital Center is important and helps us fulfill our mission to deliver superior health care services that meet the growing and changing needs of our community.

Membership into the Founders Circle is both an honor and a privilege. The Founders Circle was established to honor a group of visionary communitarians who, in the 1950s, spearheaded the effort to build a hospital in Carroll County. These pioneering philanthropists included:
  • Scott & Anita Bair                                          I have been committed to Carroll Hospital Center for more
  • Dr. Charles & Ruth Billingslea                       than 50 years. This hospital would not be here without
  • Charles O. Fisher, Sr.                                         the support of the community. As a member of the
  • F. Kale & Betty Mathias                                             Founders Circle, I know I am supporting the
  • David & Betty Scott                                                     vision and future of this great organization.
  • Atlee & Janet Wampler                                                                  ~Charles O. Fisher, Sr. (1917-2012)
  • Gladys Wimert

The Founders Circle recognizes individuals who give annual gifts of $1,000 or more—and businesses that contribute $2,500 or more—to the Carroll Hospital Center Foundation or to Carroll Hospice. Of the more than $3.4 million in charitable support given to Carroll Hospital Center last year, more than 70% was contributed by Founders Circle members. This group of donors is vital to preserve the excellence of the care we provide.

Becoming a member comes with a number of benefits including:
  • Discounts at Anchor Pharmacy, The Candy Striper & Candy Striper, Jr. Gift Shops, educational programs at Carroll Hospital Center and meals at the Overlook Café at Carroll Hospital Center.
  • Special care package if you are admitted to the hospital, including a gourmet meal and daily newspaper delivery.
  • Your name or your organization's name listed in our annual report.
  • Periodic invitations to Founders Circle Exclusive events.

What does my membership mean to Carroll Hospital Center and Carroll Hospice
Certain advanced services and equipment would not be available and accessible to our medical staff without our Founders Circle members.  Gifts coming into the Foundation are used as additional resources to complete projects, improve procedures and fund initiatives to continue to better the health care in our community.

To join the Founders Circle, please contact the Carroll Hospital Center Foundation at 410-871-6200 or e-mail

In my wife’s last five days on this earth, Sharon was in a coma. Unfortunately, the Dove House was not completed at that time. I was capable of administering her morphine, but was not able to give Sharon the dignity care that hospice personnel can provide. Sharon died on August 20, 2006. Death with dignity is an important part of life, and I know support is needed to help hospice with the tools and staffing necessary to provide this. This naming gift was my way of honoring Sharon and supporting a much needed program.
