Celebrating Five Years of Emergency Heart Attack Care

Five years ago, Carroll Hospital Center began offering emergency angioplasty procedures to patients experiencing an ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction, or STEMI, the most serious type of heart attack.

To date, more than 400 patients have experienced this type of emergency heart attack care. To recognize this anniversary and the lives changed by this procedure, the hospital hosted a celebration last week to honor former heart attack patients, their families and the health care team who care for these patients.

The event featured remarks from Leslie Simmons, R.N., FACHE, hospital president; David Zimrin, M.D., interventional cardiologist and medical director of the emergency angioplasty program; and Hemalatha Naganna, M.D., the hospital’s chief of cardiology.  Attendees also viewed our emergency angioplasty video and socialized with other patients and staff members.
